Now a free SBSettings alternative for non-jailbreakers has been made available by an iPhone developer, @brdrck. This cool web based tweak will let iPhone 4S users who cannot jailbreak their device yet, enjoy the SBSettings goodness on their device.
iPhone 4S has been jailbroken, but a public release is far away. The same is the case with iPad 2. Also, an untethered jailbreak does not yet exist even for the older iDevices, including iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, and iPod Touch 4G/3G. Considering this, many users might be interested in trying out this non-jailbreak tweak.
Here is how you can get SBSettings like shortcuts to your iPhone or iPad Homescreen. Note that this tweak is a close alternative to SBSettings, but not a replacement for the highly useful app.
We have tried the tweak on our iPad 2, and it works great. Here are the steps.
1. Open Safari browser and navigate to brdrck.me/settings.
2. Now tap on a setting that you would like to create a shortcut for on your HomeScreen. For instance, tap on ‘Bluetooth’.
3. This will take you to the Bluetooth page, where you can select an icon for its use. Then tap on ‘Install Bluetooth Shortcut’ button.
4. Tap ‘Install’ on the ‘Install Profile’ screen.
Later confirm the installation by tapping ‘Install Now’.
5. Your Bluetooth shortcut is now added to your Homescreen.
Anytime you want to toggle Bluetooth on your iPhone or iPad, simply use this shortcut to open the setting directly. The app essentially provides you with a shortcut to your Settings app, avoiding all the navigating work.
Repeat steps 1 to 5 for all those settings for which you like to have shortcuts on your Homescreen.
As we have already mentioned, this shortcut based solution is not a match to the powerful SBSettings. However, until we get a jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2, this will help you save time.
